Governor Statement on School Funding Order

"We have funded education at historic levels and we intend to continue to invest in our students. The state believes it has complied with the Montana Supreme Court decision on quality education. We believe we have a strong case and the burden is now placed on the plaintiff to prove otherwise."

The following are highlights of education funding since 2005:

* 32 percent increase in funding to quality education over last 4 years

* If looking at funding to K-12 public school districts, only, the increase in funding is 27 percent

* Legislature has defined what is meant to have a "quality education"

* Legislature has funded quality public education pursuant to statutory definition - targeting money to statutory components of "quality" consistent with "educationally relevant factors"
